Ks Hauptsignal (DB)
Signal-ID: 219 (hex: 0xDB)
Using this signal configuration, the following signals can for example be operated:
- Ks-multiple section signal + Zs1
- Ks-multiple section signal + Zs7
- Ks-main signal + Zs1
- Ks-main signal + Zs7
- Ks-distant signal
The combination signals can take on the function of the main signal, distant signal or a combined main and distant signal (multiple section signal).
The Z21 signal DECODER can also control additional signals and additional lights such as Zs1, Zs3, Zs3v, shortened braking path and distant signal repeater. In addition, depending on the signal design, either Zs7 or Sh1 can be presented.

Pass signal Hp0 or faulty light main signal without written command
Hp0+Zs7
Caution signal
Pass signal Hp0 or faulty light main signal without written command. Proceed on sight.
Yellow LEDs on terminal 8, alternative to Sh1 (see signal aspect "Hp0+Sh1")
Hp0+Sh1
Movement forbidden cancelled (for shunting movements)
White LED on terminal 8 alternative to Zs7 (see signal aspect "Hp0+Zs7")
Ks2+Zs3v+Zs3+vBw
Expect stop + Distant speed display + Speed display + Shortened braking path
This very rare signal combination can occur if for example a single speed display
Zs3 is located between the location and the next main signal (example: Bahnhof
Düren).
The braking path distance to the next main signal is shortened.
Ks2+Zs3v+Zs3
Expect stop + Distant speed display + Speed display
This very rare signal combination can occur if for example a single speed display Zs3 is located between the location and the next main signal.
Ks2+Zs3v+vBw
Expect stop + Distant speed display + Shortened braking path
This very rare signal combination can occur if for example a single speed display
Zs3 is located between the location and the next main signal.
The braking path distance to the next main signal is shortened.
Ks2+Zs3v
Expect stop + Distant speed display
Pass at the speed permitted in the schedule, expect stop at the next signal.
This rare signal combination may occur if, for example a single speed display Zs3 is located between the location and the next main signal.
Ks2+Zs3+vBw
Expect stop + Speed display + Shortened braking path
Pass at the given speed, expect stop at the next signal.
The braking path distance to the next main signal is shortened.
Ks2+Zs3
Expect stop + Speed display
Pass at the given speed, expect stop at the next signal
Ks2+Vwh
Expect stop + Distant signal repeater
Pass at the speed permitted in the schedule, expect stop at the next signal.
Distant signal repeater: the main signal aspect has already been signalled at a
previous signal and is repeated here, for example due to obstructed view.
Ks2+vBw
Expect stop + Shortened braking path
Pass at the speed permitted in the schedule, expect stop at the next signal.
The braking path distance to the next main signal is shortened.
Ks2
Expect stop
Pass at the speed permitted in the schedule, expect stop at the next signal
Ks1+Zs3v+Zs3+vBw
Proceed + Distant speed display + Speed display + Shortened braking path
Proceed at the given speed, expect speed limit at the next signal.
The braking path distance to the next main signal is shortened.
Ks1+Zs3v+Zs3
Proceed + Distant speed display + Speed display
Proceed at the given speed, expect speed limit at the next signal
Ks1+Zs3v+Vwh
Proceed + Distant speed display + Distant signal repeater
Proceed with the speed permitted in the schedule, expect speed limit at the next
signal.
Distant signal repeater: the main signal aspect has already been signalled at a
previous signal and is repeated here, for example due to obstructed view.
Ks1+Zs3v+vBw
Proceed + Distant speed indicator + Shortened braking path
Proceed with the speed permitted in the schedule, expect speed limit at the next
signal.
The braking path distance to the next main signal is shortened.
Ks1+Zs3v
Proceed + Distant speed display
Proceed with the speed permitted in the schedule, expect speed limit at the next signal
Ks1+Zs3
Proceed + Speed display
Proceed at given speed
Ks1

Dark switching
LZB CE2 (partial block mode), or access security signal at the start of routes equipped with ETCS Level 2 without signals (L2oS).
Kennlicht
Marker light
A Ks signal can be operationally switched off. The top white marker light shows the
traction unit driver that the signal is not faulty.
Zusatzlicht
Additional light
Only the bottom white marker light is
switched on.
With the usual DCC "Single accessory decoder packet format" (DCC Basic Accessory Command), only 4*4=16 signal aspects can be switched, see the columns "Trigger" and "Mode".Theoretically, however, a Ks signal can when fully developed present over 20 signal aspects. For this reason, restrictions must be made for the rare signal aspects with the combination "Ks2+Zs3v" as well as operational shutdowns.
If you wish to use the full scope of functions and really want to switch all possible signal aspects, then you can do this using a DCC control centre which commands the "DCC Extended Accessory Command". See also the column DCCext. The values for DCCext result on the Ks signal from the following system:
- 0, 65, 69 and 71 stand for Hp0 (red), Hp0+Sh1, Hp0+Zs1 and Hp0+Zs7
- 66, 67 as well as 68 stand for "complete dark switching", "only the top marker light" and "only the bottom marker light"
- 2, 6, 9 and 16 stand for Ks2 (yellow), Ks2+Zs3v (yellow with distant speed display), Ks1+Zs3v (green flashing with distant speed display) and Ks1 (green continuous light)
- Subtract 1 in order to switch on a speed limit Zs3 as well: 1, 5, 8 and 15 stand for Ks2+Zs3, Ks2+Zs3v+Zs3, Ks1+Zs3v+Zs3 and Ks1+Zs3
- If applicable, add 32 to switch on the bottom white additional light for the distant signal repeater as well: 2+32=34 ... "Ks2 + distant signal repeater"
- If applicable, add 128 to switch on the top white additional light for the shortened braking path as well: 2+128=130 ... "Ks2 + Shortened braking path"
Combinations which do not accord with the prototype are not presented!
Example:
9 ... "Ks1 + Zs3v"
9 - 1 = 8 ... "Ks1 + Zs3v + Zs3"
8 + 128 = 136 ... is equivalent to "Ks1 + Zs3v + Zs3 + Shortened braking path", see
also signal aspect "Ks1+Zs3v+Zs3+vBw" above.
