Railroad crossing (international)

Signal-ID: 73 (hex: 0x49)

Using this signal configuration, the following signals can for example be operated:

  • Railway crossing alternate flash, triangular, horizontal with 3 or 2 lamps
  • Railway crossing alternate flash, triangular, vertical with 3 or 2 lamps
  • Railway crossing alternate flash, rectangular with 3 or 2 lamps
  • Railway crossing flash, single
  • Railway crossing alternate flash, double
  • Railway crossing alternate flash, round
  • Railway crossing trackside signal for traction unit drivers

Signal aspects

Idle

DCCext

Trigger
1R

Basic position
The railway crossing is not secured.
Any gates are opened.
In some countries, depending on the Epoch, a white flashing light indicates operational readiness to road traffic.

Check

Trigger

Lamp test (optional)
On some automatically-saved prototype systems (D), both red lamps light up at the start to test the function. Only if both lamps function does the alternate flash begin as well as the appropriate signalling at the trackside signal for the traction unit driver.

Switches automatically to the signal aspect number 3 (alternate flash)

Closed

DCCext

Trigger
1G

Alternate flash
The railway crossing is secured.
Any gates are closed.
On some systems, a yellow (CH) or white (D) flashing trackside signal indicates to the traction unit driver that the railway crossing is cleared for the train.

Opening

DCCext

Open (optional)
The crossing gates are opened, the lamps are switched to dark.

Switches automatically to the signal aspect number 1 (basic position)

Delay/Idle

DCCext

Trigger
3R

Delayed basic position (optional)
On some prototype systems (CZ), the lamps are switched to dark if the train is still located on the approach route of the opposite direction after switch-off.
Any gates are opened.

Switches after a few seconds automatically to signal aspect number 1 (Basic position)

Caution

Warning light (optional)
The third light ("post Hixon-amber light", UK) is first switched on for 4 seconds.
Then it switches off and the alternate flash is activated.

Switches automatically to the signal aspect number 3 (alternate flash)

Dark

DCCext

Trigger
4R

Dark switching (optional)

All lamps are switched off.
